Abstract

The learning behaviors and social relationship are changing, to accommodate the transformation, many leading universities of the world take advantage of design or reconstruction to open the campus border to build an inviting and friendly environment to its neighboring communities. By utilizing proper design concepts to renovate the relationship between campus, community and city, and to satisfy the expectation from the teacher, students and neighbors for better campus environment, the campus border will enhance the sustainable development of campus life and city ecology. The study will discuss about the design considerations in modern trends of opening campus border with the case of the enclosure wall of Main Campus II, National Taiwan Normal University. By making the campus border more fluent moving, it becomes no more the symbols of closure and conservativeness just to maintain a safe and peaceful environment, and thereby releases the storytelling energy and unique artistic traits of the NTNU and functions as a bridge for teachers and students to move beyond to fulfill their social responsibilities.
