Abstract

As investors' demand for diversified investments continues to increase, ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds), as a convenient, low-cost, and highly transparent financial instrument, are gradually expanding their application in investment portfolios and their role as a retirement planning tool. This has made ETFs an important financial tool for the salaried class and increasingly relevant in retirement planning. However, there remains a question regarding the general public's perception of ETFs and whether they are genuinely considered a retirement financial tool. This study aims to explore the subjective cognition and purchasing behavior of EMBA students towards ETFs and their association with retirement financial planning. The research targets EMBA students who have previously purchased ETF products, collecting a total of 222 valid questionnaires. The findings reveal that EMBA students who use ETFs as a financial tool tend to have a higher agreement on the perceived low risk of ETFs, while those who do not use ETFs as a financial tool tend to have a higher agreement on the proactive degree of retirement planning. There is a significant correlation between the subjective cognition of ETFs and financial planning investment behavior. The higher the perceived low risk of ETFs, the higher the proactiveness in retirement planning and rational financial management. Conversely, the higher the non-herd behavior in buying and selling ETFs, the higher the proactiveness in retirement planning, but the lower the rational financial management proactiveness.
