解嚴前臺灣《戰地春夢》與《戰地鐘聲》中譯本初探

Abstract

本研究旨在探討解嚴前臺灣《戰地春夢》及《戰地鐘聲》譯本的更迭情形以及翻譯品質，並試圖從翻譯品質表現差異為兩部作品接受度與知名度差異懸殊的現象提出解答。由於兩部作品均屬反戰主題小說，因此翻譯品質探討援引例子皆以帶有反戰色彩段落為主。本論文分為五章，第一章介紹研究方向與架構，並梳理相關研究。第二章概述海明威生平與相關作品，並簡介《戰地春夢》及《戰地鐘聲》內容。第三章及第四章則個別針對該兩部作品譯者與翻譯表現進行分析，引用例子比較各種譯本策略取向與優缺所在。第五章為總結，歸納本研究重要發現，並提出未來研究可著力的方向。

This study compares and analyzes the Chinese translation versions of A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls published in Taiwan before the martial law was lifted in 1987. Though A Farewell to Arms enjoys huge popularity and wide acceptance by the public in Taiwan, readers are less familiar with For Whom the Bell Tolls. Therefore, the study also aims to unlock the mystery behind this phenomenon by examining the translation quality of each Chinese version of the two novels. The study is comprised of five chapters, with Chapter 1 giving a general picture of the study, including research direction and the framework of the study, as well as relevant previous studies. Chapter 2 touches on the life and works of Ernest Hemingway, and the summaries of A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls are also provided in this chapter. Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 discuss and compare various Chinese versions of A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls respectively, with examples focusing on paragraphs that manifest Ernest Hemingway’s pacifist views. Major findings of the study are laid out in the final chapter.
