zh_TW
Taiwan has produced its fair share of translation and interpreting studies up to this point. Liao (2007), Ho (2013) and Xu (2014) have conducted meta-analyses reviewing the development of Taiwan's interpreting studies, presenting a clear picture of progress made in the discipline between 1997 and 2013. This study aims to build on Liao's (2007), Ho's (2013) and Xu's (2014) research by analyzing Taiwanese interpreting studies between 2014 and 2021. Traditional means of literature review and unconventional, algorithm-based content analysis tools were adopted to analyze factors including the share of interpreting studies among all Taiwanese translation studies, research topics, research methods, studied language, and languages in which studies are published, in the hope of identifying the research trend of Taiwanese interpreting studies. In addition, the study also compares interpreting studies between Taiwan and Japan, highlighting similarities and differences between the two countries. The study found significant changes in research topics and research methods of Taiwanese interpreting study compared with nearly a decade ago: profession-related issues have overtaken education by a large margin to become the most popular topic, while the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods is now widely adopted by Taiwanese researchers. In terms of the comparison between Taiwan and Japan, the study found that while the share of interpreting studies in overall translation studies in Japan is higher than that of Taiwan, there are no other pronounced differences between interpreting studies in the two countries. Based on the findings above, this study identified areas where Taiwan's interpreting research community can improve and provided suggestions accordingly.en_US
