Abstract
Conventional printing is usually to be performed on two dimensional objects but has its limitations when applying onto three dimensional products. Accompanying rapid economy growth and a quick increase of personal income, the pubic standard of living rising which drives both consumers and industry users no longer be satisfied simply with fundamental “functional usage”. Instead, aesthetical design of the product is becoming increasingly important. Such alternative substantial demand has aroused suppliers in the field to devote themselves in research and development in 3D surface decoration technology. To increase the value of the product by expressing unlimited textures on the surface of cheap substrates such as plastic, some 3D surface treatment technologies utilizing the printing principle have been developed successively. The most common example is the application of “Aquagraphics” for wood-grained finish on automobile interiors. Through study and comparison of related technology by literature review, this research also makes analysis through interviewing and surveying from different constructs as market situation 、cost、quality、delivery and added value towards application of 3D surface decoration technology on automobile interiors. This research starts from consumers’ demand of product design and summarizes with the technical content of the 3D surface decoration technology by related scientific research methods. It is expected to be beneficial to those industry managers, government officers, and scholars of the related field. In addition to being an extension and development of the traditional technology, 3D surface decoration technology is a cross-field-exploration to a new scope of design industry. This hybrid technology is offering new transformations and upgrading opportunities to the traditional printers. The result of this research was mainly focused on “Aquagraphics” while “IMD technology” was limited been used on automobile interiors, at this stage.
