zh_TW
Taipei had undergone a transition under Japanese colonial period. Japanese governors reorganized three old cities--"Walls of Taipei, Bangka, Dadaocheng" into Taiwan’s largest cities. Administrative systems and commercial organizations were also centered in these areas. During this time, a lot of Japanese people immigrated to Taipei. There were more Taiwanese people living in Dadaocheng in Taipei while Japanese people living in Walls of Taipei. When reading “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway”, I investigate Taiwan’s Railway, guidebooks, and means of transportation in Taipei during Japanese colonial period. “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway” is published by Railway Department of the General Governor of Taiwan, reflecting the development of Taiwan’s railroad systems. As to the transportation of Taipei, buses, taxis and so on, those new means of transportation also increases the convenience of communication in Taipei City. By referring to other published guidebooks, This paper investigates Taipei under Japanese colonial period from the representative guidebook “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway”. This guidebook is published from Railway Department of the General Governor of Taiwan introducing a variety of landmarks in Taiwan. These landmarks, however, display Japanese governors’ intention of ruling over Taiwan. “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway” pays special attention to those buildings that are strongly associated with the colonial domination, recreational spots after Japanese colonial period, and industrial facilities, etc. “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway” offers a lot of information about Taipei tourism and its spatial construction.   “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway” compiles the first published guidebook in Taiwan to those of others into the “Guidebooks of Taiwan Railway”.en_US
