會議口譯工作環境研究:台北地區固定式口譯間之初探

Abstract

固定式同步口譯間的實質環境因素對同步會議口譯品質有影響。然而,台灣缺乏相關的實證研究。本研究以文獻探討的方式,探究口譯間的各種因素-如大小、通道、視線、窗戶、通風、採光、音響效果、座位、與桌面-以及這些特性對同步口譯品質可能產生的影響。本研究採用質化及量化研究方式,以實地調查、問卷、與訪問探討口譯員對於口譯間之需求、口譯間各項因素之重要性、及口譯間是否符合ISO 2603標準與口譯員的期望。本研究發現口譯間設計的確會對口譯品質產生影響。此外,口譯員的需求遭誤解或忽視,可能導致口譯間設計不符ISO 2603標準及口譯員需求。總結研究發現及文獻回顧,未來需要更多的相關研究並提升口譯員地位,才能改善口譯間設計,並造福口譯員、聽眾、與台灣整體會議產業。
The environmental/physical factors of simultaneous interpretation booths are one of the factors known to influence the quality of conference interpretation. However, empirical research in Taiwan is lacking. This study focuses on the factors of booth size, access, visibility, ventilation, lighting, acoustics, seating, and working surface of built-in booths for simultaneous interpretation, the needs of interpreters with regard to booth design, and the compliance of current conditions with interpreters’ needs and International Standard ISO 2603 Booths for Simultaneous Interpretation. To this end, this study has gathered qualitative and quantitative data from field studies, questionnaire, and interviews. The results suggest that booth factors can indeed affect interpretation quality. In addition, much of the discrepancies between current conditions, ISO 2603, and interpreters’ needs can be attributed to the lack of understanding for interpreters’ needs by the designers of the booth. Together, these findings suggest that more research and promotion of the importance of interpretation is needed to improve booth conditions, for the benefit of interpreters, audience members, and conferences as a whole.
