Abstract
Published in 1919, the Chinese Union Version (CUV) Bible has become the most dominant and popular version in the history of Chinese Bible translation. Its style and diction have had a profound influence on other modern Chinese translations. However, with the evolution of the Chinese language, the need for revisions to the CUV has increased in recent years. The Chinese Recovery Version (CRV) was written to address this need. It follows the style of the CUV closely, while also claiming to be more accurate and faithful to the source text.Using the Epistle to the Colossians as the basis of comparison, this thesis attempts to evaluate the strategies of the CRV on the revision of the CUV. In order to help readers better understand the historical background of the CUV and the CRV, this paper will also introduce the history of the Chinese Bible translation and discuss the characteristics of the CUV and the CRV. This thesis concludes that the translation of the CRV is indeed closer to the original meaning, but its literal translation may sometimes be difficult to understand among Chinese readers.
