How does well-being come about? This is a question many people wonder. We often assume that those with wealth and power are the happiest, while those struggling with poverty are the most unfortunate. But is that really the case? This study aims to understand the experiences of parents raising children with mild autism, tracing their journey from initial confusion and negative emotions, through the challenges faced along the way, to the eventual emergence of a sense of well-being. It also seeks to explore the underlying factors contributing to this sense of well-being. Adopting a qualitative, phenomenal research method, this study employed purposive sampling and conducted semi-structured, in-depth interviews with six parents of children with mild autism to develop a model of “parents of children with mild autism who experience a sense of well-being.”The results reveal that, in the early stages of caregiving, these parents experience a significant number of negative emotions. However, through coping strategies— such as actively solving problems, employing stress adjustment techniques, and seeking support— they gradually develop a sense of well-being. The content of this well-being includes: feedback from their children, the parent-child bond, self-recognition, and a deep sense of life’s meaning. The factors behind the sense of well-being include: Personal traits, the ability to reassess situations, and positive family relationships. The findings of this study provide insights into the well-being experienced by parents of children with mild autism and offer suggestions for parental self-adjustment and professional guidance in parental education.en_US
