Abstract
This study considers the "Language and Literature course” with Language A level Chinese A Course in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme" (IBDP) as the main line to analyze the three literature courses in the Language A Course, namely "Literature", "Language and Literature" and "Literature and Perform-ing Arts" courses. The core elements of this course are language, literature and per-formance. That with the help of advance texts or resources allow students to explore the relationship between the readers and the authors from diverse periods and envi-ronments belonging to different genres of literary works. Additionally, the intertex-tuality of "text" is based on the diverse "text" and "non-text" materials related to the subject of the course. The researcher finds that IBDP’s language A Course pays great attention to the inter-relationship between the “reader”, the “author” and the “text”. This aspect is similar to the focus of the “reader response theory”. Hence, the researcher will em-ploy the reader- response theory along with the teaching principles of "Language and Literature Course" to design a course based on Taiwanese literary writer Lin Hai-yin, Memories of Peking: South Side Stories. Finally, the researcher will summarize, conclude, and provide some suggestions for Chinese teachers who are interested in enrolling in IBDP in the future.
