Abstract: 國民中學階段主要的教育功能是試探,所以我國實施九年國民教育後,教育部頒佈實施的國民中學課程標準明定:「國民中學之主要職能在於陶融民族文化、試探學生才能、指導學生就業或升學。因此在課程方面,除注重一般的文化陶冶之外,應加強職業指導及職業陶冶,以鑑別學生個性,發現學生才能,試探職業興趣... 」(註一)。九年國民教育實施至今,已經十五年,已有十三屆學生畢業,國民中學的這項「主要功能」發揮了多少成效?應該是很重要的問題。筆者從事改制前的初中和改制後的國中教育工作,前後長達二十七年,親歷社會的變遷,身經教育制度的更換,發現國民中學畢業生,在升學與就業上,一直存在著下列問題,並未因教育制度之更新而有所改變。
The purpose of this study was to investigate how the exploring function worked in junior high schools. It was expected that the findings from this study might be helpful to the improvement of our junior high school education and the execution of the project“the Lengthening of the National Education Based on Vocational Education”.Questionnaire method was used with the following procedure:first studies the documents concerned, made out the questionnaire, drew the sample, then began to investigate with the questionnaire, analyzed the result, and finally brought about its findings.The major findings and conclusion were as follows:1. To the will─be graduates from junior high schools, only two third of them were aware of their own vocational interest. Half of them never took any kind of vocational interest or aptitude test. Whether they were given tests or not correlated closely to their understanding of their interest or aptitude. 2. To those who intended to enter a higher schools after graduation, four tenths didn't know the difference between high schools, advanced vocational schools and five─year system junior colleges. To those who decided to get employment after graduation, half of them knew the classification of careers so little that they failed to make good choices of jobs. 3. To those who hoped to continue their study, only three tenths knew clearly the sections or departments that their aiming─at schools had. To those who preferred to become employees only half made their choice of jobs and seven tenths of them decisions according to their self─interest. 4. To those who understandings their own interest decided to promote to higher schools, 22.66% failed to make proper choices of schools they wanted to enter while 66.66% failed in the decisions of sections or departments they wanted to major in.
