Item Competency disparity between pre-service teacher education and in-service teaching requirements in Taiwan(2008-01-01) Hong, J.C.; Horng, J. S.; ChanLin, L. J.; Lin, C. L.The purpose of this study is to explore whether pre-service teacher education in Taiwan equips in-service teachers with the necessary knowledge and competency to meet the demands of the professional career. A questionnaire was developed to investigate such competency disparity. The questionnaire containing 44 items within six categories was distributed to 305 samples in Taiwan. With a return rate of 92.5%, 282 valid samples were returned and analyzed. The results of this study indicated that risk management and proactive thinking skills are the most significant factors in terms of competency disparity. Moreover, the results of this study showed that years of service, and size of school have a significant difference in the value system of competency disparity. The results of this study can be applied to change the program of prospective teacher education to enhance future teachers’ performance.Item Examining Technology Acceptance in a Competitive Educational Game: A Case Study of “NEXT”(2010-03-31) Hong, J.C.; Shen, Y.C.The purpose of the current study was to examine levels of technology acceptance among 20 elementary teachers and to evaluate the differences in rating the acceptance of the online game “Next”. The online game system functioned as an educational instrument and the current study served as a reference for the future research which may evaluate the effectiveness of the instrument. The results suggested that the instrument was generally accepted by the teachers and there was no significant difference in rating the variables of technology acceptance regarding the instrument, including perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude, usage intentions and concentration.Item Playfulness-based design in educational Games: a perspective on an evolutionary contest game(Routledge, 2009-03-13) Hong, J.C.; Hwang, Ming-YuehPlayfulness steering is an emerging approach in educational game design and play. The integration of arithmetical computation, game strategy, and teamwork into one game allows players to interactively “steer” the playfulness and enhance learning. In this paper an evolutionary contest game was designed and implemented to examine the influencial factors. Using action research, focus groups and hermeneutic methods, this study suggest that the playfulness design of an evolutionary game is influenced by the degree of uncertainty and flexibility in decision-making, the level of challenge, equal conditions for fair play, opportunities to compete/cooperate, and the level of interactivity.Item A toy Clinic shop: innovation management in a Shin-Tai elementary school(2008-01-01) Hong, J.C.; Liang, H.W.; Hwang, Ming-Yueh; Chang, S.
