Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate the development process of experimental learning camps organized by A Association as well as the difficult situations and coping methods that have been encountered and used by the staff members of the experimental learning camps. Using the case study approach, this study mainly analyzes data collected from interviews with the staff members in A Association’s long-term summer camps to obtain suggestions that can be a reference for future researchers and practitioners. The results indicate that the association developed its current activity design process after progressing through four periods, including “the initial period”, “the pre-stable period”, “the trial period”, and “the post-stable period”. Besides, the difficult situations encountered by the staff members include “work difficulties for guides”, “problems in administrative affairs”, and “administrative conflicts”. When faced with difficult situations, they have four main approaches to relieving the stress, including “self adaptation”, “peer support and assistance”, “supervisor assistance”, and “accumulation of experience”. This study also summarizes three types of barriers to camp re-participation, including “camp-related factors”, “personal factors”, and “the external environment”. Finally, based on A Association’s 10-year experience in the organization of experiential learning camps, this study provides suggestions with regard to the practice of organizing experiential learning camps.
