Abstract
This study aims to explore the association between job stress and occupational burnout among public health nurses in Taipei Health Service Centers. Study participants were recruited from the public health nurses in the health service centers Taipei. A structured questionnaire consisting of the"Job Stress Scale for Public Health Nurses" and the "Occupational Fatigue Scale" was used for data collection. Data analyses showed the following results: 1. Among the 130 participants, the mean age was 42.03, and 98.5 % were female. The mean score of job stress scale was 4.18, indicating moderate to high level of job stress. The average scores of job stress dimensions, ranked from high to low, were "workload," "organizational climate," "working hours," "role characteristics," "job security," "family life," "interpersonal relationships," and "job content." 2. The average occupational burnout scale score reported by study participants was 3.46, showing that they experienced a moderate level of occupational burnout. 3. The average monthly overtime hours and job stress scale scores were significantly positively correlated with scores of overall occupational burnout scale and the domains including "personal fatigue," "work-related fatigue," "fatigue towards service recipients," and "workovercommitment" among the study participants. 4. The multiple regression analysis showed that average monthly overtime hours, job content stress, and interpersonal relationship stress were significant predictors of overall occupational burnout, explaining 51.7% of the total variance.
