Abstract
The study aimed at exploring the relationship between body image and weight control behaviors of senior high school students. In 2016, the study used structured questionnaires, to collected data through stratified cluster random sampling. The return is 94%from 356 participants. The statistical findings are as follows: 1.According to the BMI,30%of the participants overweight . However , more than half of the participants felt that even though others considered they were keeping standard weight, they still felt themselves a little bit heavier in their own consciousness. 2.Among the six components of body image, the health orientation showed the highest scores, followed by body image and appearance assessment . The participants aren’t satisfied with their appearance, and lack of self-confidence. 3. Among the individual factors , “Sex ,” “self-evaluated weight, ” and “BMI,” are the most relevant to body image. 4. The participants and social factors had negative correlation with appearance assessment .If the participants received more negative reviews from their significant others , they showed lower satisfaction to their appearance. The participants and social factors had positive correlation with “physically orientation ,”and “ health assessment“ . 5. “Diet control” had significant correlation with “appearance assessment,“ and “ appearance orientation ,” “physically assessment,” “ health orientation .” Body image had positive correlation with “appearance orientation“ and “physically orientation. “ 6. Individual and social factors ,body image could explain 34%variance on “diet control.” The main predictors are “Sex,” “Weight- control experience ,” and “peers of opposite sex,” “appearance assessment,” “ appearance orientation ” and the most influential element is “ appearance orientation .” What’s more ,we could explain 25% of the variance if we use individual and social factors to predict “physical activity ” and thus the main predictive variables are “Sex,” and “physically orientation ,” the most influential element is “Sex”.
