Abstract

This study investigated the association between eHealth literacy and health-promoting lifestyles among adult Internet users. Factors including gender, age, education level, perceived health status, and health information seeking behaviors were also examined. Study sample came from participants over the age of 20 who use the Internet. A total of 493 participants were recruited using a self-administrated online questionnaire. Sociodemographics, perceived health status, health information seeking behaviors were assessed. The eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS) and the Short-form Chinese Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP-S) were used. Results: (1) The study participants reported moderate to high level of eHealth literacy and moderate level of health-promoting lifestyles; (2) Study participants who were with higher education level, perceiving good health status, and with higher frequency of health information seeking behaviors demonstrated better eHealth literacy and health-promoting lifestyles; (3) The score of eHEALS was positively associated with the score of HPLP-S; (4) Age, education level, perceived health status, health information seeking behaviors, and eHealth literacy were predictors of the overall health-promoting lifestyles. Findings suggest the interventions on eHealth literacy to promote healthy lifestyles. In addition, the effectiveness of these interventions should be verified in future research.
