Abstract
無中文摘要
Nowadays, because of the development of transportation and communication technology, there are international business trading and interactions between Taiwan and other countries all over the world. Therefore, cultivating cross-cultural awareness is essential and learning both Mandarin and English can be a necessity for students in Taiwan. The education system in Taiwan provides students sufficient resources and environment to learn English. Teachers not only teach students grammatical sentence patterns and vocabulary, but also gradually emphasize on enhancing students’ cross-cultural awareness. The study investigates the enhancement of students’ cross-cultural awareness by the design and delivery of teacher’s curriculum. The overall strategy for the study was based on quantitative and qualitative research. The curriculum contains two themes: cross-cultural communication and global perspectives as the major investigation and there are ten lessons in total. The samples are students from junior high school in Taiwan. The data was collected through questionnaires and interview analysis. The study identifies that the curriculum does help enhance students’ cross-cultural awareness; however, students’ attitude related to global issues can still be improved. The main purpose not only makes students understand different cultures in different countries, but also to arouse students’ edification for Taiwan. It hopes students know the comparison of different cultures, try to be tolerant and respectful and enhance their cross-cultural awareness respectively.
