Abstract
Purpose: This study examined the relationship between disposition mindfulness and well-being among 165 collegiate tennis players in Taiwan. Although previous studies support positive links between well-being, mindfulness, and athletic performance, limited research in Taiwan focuses on competitive athletes or open-skills sports like tennis. Methods: A total of 165 collegiate tennis players on both male and female participated in this study. Results: In term of gender, male athletes scored higher than female athletes in overall well-being, some dimensions of well-being, and attention regulation in mindfulness. Concerning meditation experience, athletes who had meditated within the past month scored higher in mindfulness, overall well-being, and some dimensions of well-being compared to those without meditation experience. Regarding performance level, except for the non-judgement subscale, all other dimensions showed that athletes with better competitive results scored higher in both mindfulness and well-being compared to those without notable achievements or those who competed at lower levels. Conclusion: Among collegiate tennis players, mindfulness is positively correlated with well-being. Through mindfulness training, athletes may enhance their on-court focus, mental stability, and potentially reduce negative emotions. It is recommended that tennis coaches consider incorporating mindfulness practices into training routines to support players’ overall psychological well-being and competitive consistency.
