A Study of InterentInternet Use Behaviors, Emotional Intelligence, Mental Health of Junior High School Students in New Taipei City. Pei Ching – Wu Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the junior high school students’behavior of Internet using, emotional intelligence and mental health. The methodology of the data collection was a survey method based on 578 valid samples from 7th to 9th grade junior high school students in New Taipei City of 2015 academic year. The procedure of the research includes "the Internet Using behavior Scale", "Emotional intelligence Scale for Junior High School Student" and "Positive Mental Health Scale". The data retrieved were statistically analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, multivariate analysis of variance, Pearson Product-Moment correlation and multiple regression analysis. The main findings of this research were as follows: 1. In the aspect of the behavior of Internet using: Boys got better grades on relationship helping, network dependent and beneficial behavior than girls; student used Internet for more than 4 years got higher grades on network dependent; student used Internet with higher frequency or with longer net surfing hours got better grades on relationship helping, network dependent and beneficial behavior. 2.In the aspect of the emotional intelligence: Boys got better grades than girls on emotional cognition of the emotional intelligence; difference on grade, Internet seniority and frequency of Internet using was not found in the part of emotional intelligence; student with less than four hours of the Internet using got better grades than the one with higher than four hours on the part of emotional cognition, emotional expression, positive incentives, emotion regulation, emotion introspection and emotional intelligence. 3. In the aspect of the mental health: Boys only got better grades than girls on self-pleasing and optimistic and enterprising; 9th graders scored higher than 7th graders on emotion balance; but there was no difference in self-pleasing,relationships, family harmony and optimistic and enterprising; meanwhile there was no difference with different Internet using period or frequency on the mental health. 4. The behavior of Internet using of relationship helping " and beneficial behavior” was positively related to the emotional intelligence among the junior high school students. The prediction rate to the emotional intelligence using relationship helping was 6%; using network dependent was 2%; using beneficial behavior was 1%. 5. The behavior of Internet using of relationship helping " and beneficial behavior” was positively related to the self-pleasing, relationships, family harmony and optimistic and enterprising on mental health among the junior high school students. The behavior of Internet using of network dependent was negatively related to the emotion balance on mental health. The prediction rate to the mental health using relationship helping was 3%; using network dependent was 2%. Keywords:behavior of Internet using, emotional intelligence, mental health
