dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to explore the impact of an expressive arts therapy workshop on enhancing self-care abilities in individuals with depression during the stable phase. Utilizing a narrative research approach, the study investigated how individuals reconstructed their experiences of illness and self-care through artistic creation and storytelling. The participants included eight adults who had been diagnosed with depression and were in a stable condition. They attended a one-day expressive arts therapy workshop held in two separate sessions. The workshop activities included the use of symbolic card media, visual art creation, expressive writing, and group sharing. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted, and both textual and visual data were analyzed.The findings revealed that through the process of art-making, participants gradually became aware of their internal states, using concrete imagery to express suppressed emotions and life experiences. This facilitated the development of new narratives centered on self-awareness, acceptance, and self-care. The workshop also provided a safe group environment where participants experienced understanding and empathy through interaction, thereby enhancing psychological resilience and a sense of agency.
