Abstract
The study attempts to incorporate the subject of picture book that has been steadily gaining popularity of late as the creative teaching material for the junior high school student’s visual arts education. The study’s objectives encompass: 1. To devise a creative picture book teaching campaign for the junior high school students. 2. To analyze the teaching process and results and present research findings and recommendations. 3. To conduct preliminary archival literature review, conduct the teaching design and research, and gather relevant data, with which to conduct the data analysis and explore the teaching yield; some of the crucial findings are as follows: 1. The researcher has sorted the data and found that dissertations related to picture book teaching over the years encompass various subjects, indicating that picture book teaching offers significant contribution to education. 2. The application of picture book teaching encompasses a wide range of age groups, but there are few researches focusing on the stage of junior high school students, suggesting room for exploring the probability of adopting picture book teaching during the junior high school phase. 3. A majority of the study respondents hold a positive attitude toward the picture book and the teaching mode, and all students polled are able to complete the picture book, with 89% of the respondent indicating the comprehensive of what a picture book is, 97% of the respondents indicating that they derive a sense of achievement form the picture book creation, 94% of the respondents indicating that the picture book creative is helpful to the teaching content, and 99% of the respondents indicating their satisfaction toward the picture book creation. 4. The picture book the study respondents are drawn to needs to incorporate story-telling and aesthetics, with tragic stories being most alluring, and intricately executed graphics are found to draw the high school students’ attention the most. And value is also a focal point that the junior high students consider. 5. Among the respondents’ creative subjects, there are higher tendencies of readopted fairytale stories, friendship and love stories. In appearance, the respondents are drawn to a perceived sophistication and formality offered by the hardcover picture book. The means of their creative skills largely take III to color sketching and collages. The study offers a few recommendations in the teaching design: 1. The choice of the teaching material can be paired to the students’ favorite types, and diverse styles in order to bring the students with different experience and perceptions. It is best to adopt an interactive teaching method by incorporating a performance-based expression method into the informative teaching that attempts to integrate cross-domain knowledge. 2. It is best to incorporate diverse teaching modes to excel the students’ learning motivation by incorporating scenario setting and guidance to enrich the students’ sensory experience. 3. A viable future research focus calls for expanding the approach to cover different subjects and different grades of students, with attempts to integrate the audiovisual medium and the computerized teaching into the study of creative picture book teaching.
