Abstract
關於馬偕的研究雖然已經十分豐碩,但多數研究皆集中在其宣教及醫療貢獻上。而其中少數對於馬偕教育活動的研究上,也多聚焦在實質的教育設施及教學活動介紹上,卻未有對這些教育活動背後的思想基礎及脈絡有深入的研究。本研究採用歷史研究方法,首章為緒論,主要闡釋研究者研究動機、先前馬偕研究的成果及評述、研究目的、研究範圍及主要研究方法。第二章則分個人背景、思想傳承及時代背景三個層次,分段闡述馬偕教育思想的背景脈絡。第三章則以教育的觀點來評價馬偕教育活動的成效及意義。第四章為結論,綜合前三章的研究結果提出馬偕教育活動的總結評述,指出馬偕的教育活動的價值,及其在台灣教育史上的地位,並提示往後研究可以採行的方向。
Although the researches about George L. Mackay are abundant, yet most of them are only concerning about Mackay’s contributions of religion and medical affairs. Among less of researches about Mackay’s educational activities, most focus on the parts of teaching installation and actions. There is little deeper research on the foundation and background of Mackay’s educational thoughts. This study is a historical research. It includes four parts. The first is to explore the main motive, purpose and approach of this research. The second is to describe the threads of Mackay’s educational thoughts, including personal background, the heritance of theological thinking and the contexts in his age. The third is to evaluate Makay’s activities from educational viewpoints. The forth is to sum up the whole the thesis. Also, point out the meaning and position of Mackay’s educational activities in history of Taiwan education.
