Abstract
Objective: Compassion fatigue is a prevalent issue among healthcare professionals, often resulting in physical and mental exhaustion, emotional distress, and a decline in the quality of patient care. This study aimed to examine the effects of a compassion meditation audio intervention on self-compassion among healthcare professionals. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted, recruiting healthcare professionals who voluntarily participated in the study. Participants in the experimental group received a one-month intervention consisting of six compassion meditation audio recordings, each lasting 10–13 minutes and delivered approximately every five days. The control group received no intervention. Both groups completed the Taiwan version of the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) before and after the intervention. Results: Using Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) to analyze the pre- and post-intervention data, the results indicated that the compassion meditation audio intervention significantly improved levels of self-compassion in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The findings support the use of compassion meditation audio recordings as a feasible and effective method for enhancing self-care and self-compassion among healthcare professionals. However, further empirical research is needed to determine the optimal frequency and duration required to achieve comprehensive improvements in self-compassion.
