Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to investigate life stress and coping strategies among continuing education students in a senior vocational high school in Tainan city. Relevant factors of life stress and coping strategies will also be examined. We conducted a survey for continuing education students and collected 104 effective questionnaires. Results showed that students had low or moderate level of life stress, and the major pressure perception came from academic pressure and financial pressure.Academic burden is associated with life stress. The frequency of using stress-coping strategies was moderate or high. The most commonly used stress-coping strategies are problem solving and emotional relief. The frequency of using the stress-coping strategies was associated with employment condition and academic burden. However, there was no significant correlation between life stress and the frequency of using stress-coping strategies. Finally, we found that employment condition could be a predictor of the frequency of using stress-coping strategies. We suggested that the school offer help and organize related health promotion activities to help students cope with stress and develop positive stress-coping strategies.
