Abstract
The February 28 Incident (also known as the 228 Incident) occurred nearly seventy years ago, it is still being debated in Taiwan. Although the amount of 228 fictions has been increasing with the transfer of political system, literary studies are mostly based on serious literature discussions. Except for the serious literature, this study intends to discuss how romance, BL (Boys’ Love) and fantasy reproduce the 228 Incident through the perspective of sociology of literature. This study will be divided into three parts by using cultural analysis: Second chapter is about romance, third chapter is about BL and fourth chapter is about fantasy. First, each chapter starts with textual analysis, then focuses on external operations. In textual analysis, this study will discuss about writing strategies (narrative, character, theme) and historical memories (landscape, space, identity). In this way, this study not only to reveal the aesthetic of fictions, but also show us how memories and space narrative shape the historical imagination. In external operations, this study will explain the development context of popular literature and publishers, then organize the creative motivation and reader’s feedback to observe the position of the text. This paper will discuss the interaction between internal text and external structure through the perspective of literary sociology. It shows the possibility of combining popular literature with 228 Incident, and outlines the multiple images of 228 fictions. In addition, using this as an entry point to examine the problems implied in Taiwanese literature, trying to reinterpret the subjectivity in popular literature but it neglected.
