Abstract

This study consists of two parts. As a basis for this creative research, the first part of the study looks at the origin and history of digital and installation arts that are prevalent nowadays. I examine the urban creative artists as well as the concepts and methods behind their work. With the constant development and introduction of new media technology, the computer digital experience has showcased visual arts in ways that are completely different from the past. The birth of advanced science and technology gadgets, i.e. Adobe Photoshop, digital cameras… etc., have changed how creative artists work. Taking image synthesis and installations as the starting point for the second part of this study, I then explore and analyze the concept, the spirit, the form, as well as the practical approach behind digital arts. From the birth of digital arts in the contemporary era to the evaluation and interpretation of installations – the findings are then categorized and utilized as a reference for future creations. Finally, I apply the compiled knowledge to personal practices in order to achieve a balanced development between theory and practice. The industrial revolution and the rapid progresses of science and technology in the 21st century have generated unprecedented progress and prosperity. At the same time, however, as science and technology advances, the relationship between city - dwellers has become alienated and distant. Via examining urban artists and their work, this paper explores the vital issues and elements that impact urban life - a journey from external ‘environment’ to internal ‘reading’ and ‘memory’.
