Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to discuss the relationships of job involvement and job stress of the direct support professionals who works in educational institute for individual with intellectual disability. We also want to understand which variables could have correlation with job involvement and job stress. We used the self-made questionnaire “Job Perception Questionnaire of Direct Support Professionals in Educational Institute for Individual with Intellectual Disability” and “Questionnaire for Chief Director” to proceed this census study. Questionnaires were sent to 349 workers in 22 educational institute for indivisual with intellectual disability in Taipei City, and 248 data were replied and valid for data process. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, and Spearman rank correlation. The conclusions of this study were as follows: 1. In personal background variables, seniority and salary both have positive correlation with job involvement. In institutional background variables, including the size of institute, the type of service, and the model of restor, all have correlation with job involve and job stress. The bigger the size of institute, the lower the job involvement, and the higher the job stress. And if the institute provides all-day care service, or when the direct support professional has to provide service as a shift worker, we can find the highest job involvement and the lowest job stress present. 2. There is a negative correlation between job involvement and job stress.
