Abstract
This study aimed to explore the relationship between electronic health (e-health) literacy and electronic health services use among middle- to older-aged adults. A total of 556 adults completed online survey in 2020. The results were as follows. The middle- to older-aged adults had intermediate e-health literacy. Adults’ age, gender, educational level, economic status, medical status, and internet use were associated with e-health literacy. Sixty-four percent of adults used medical services applications (apps) for outpatient appointment, drug inquiry and online payment. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that adults who were women, college-educated, had higher income, e-health literacy and regular outpatient visits were more likely to use medical services apps. Twenty-three percent of adults used health management apps for weight and blood pressure management, while forty percent of adults used wearable electronic devices for physical activity tracking. Adults who had chronic diseases and higher e-health literacy were more likely to use health management apps and wearable electronic devices. Forty-four percent of adults used health-related websites or social media to obtain health information. Adults who were women and had higher e-health literacy were more likely to use health-related websites and social media. It was suggested that fostering e-health literacy among adults might enhance the utilization of e-health services.
