Abstract
Wildlife in Taiwan is facing severe threats to their survival due to habitat destruction, leading to the issue of wildlife injury and rescue. However, public awareness and understanding of this issue are weak. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate whether different digital storytelling modes of news games have an impact on the audience's understanding of the issue and willingness to share it. To achieve this goal, the study explores the situation of wildlife injury and rescue in Taiwan, and analyzes the types of news games both domestically and internationally, as well as their narrative structures. In addition, the study formulates evaluation methods based on literature review, such as understanding level and willingness to share. To compare the differences brought by narrative structures, two digital storytelling modes, linear and non-linear, are used to develop news games. Through user testing, this study presents design recommendations for news game development, so that future practitioners can create news games that effectively convey information to the audience based on this research. The main objective of this study is to investigate whether different digital narrative modes have an impact on the audience's understanding of the issue and their willingness to share it, and to further explore whether demographic variables play a significant role in the effectiveness of news games and the audience's response. The study found that compared to linear narratives, non-linear news games can enhance the audience's willingness to share, but linear news games have a higher level of understanding of the news among the audience. As for the impact of demographic variables on the audience, gender has an effecton the audience's willingness to share the news, while age and education level have no significant effect. This study proposes effective design recommendations for news games to convey information to audiences effectively. Finally, this article discusses the comprehensive analysis of the research results and findings, as well as the limitations and future possibilities for related research.
