Abstract
This paper focuses on the subject of “women’s power”. Through studying the author’s path of art creation and the changing of styles between periods, the author attempts to trace the origin of her self-identity and the formation of values she believed in. The concept of women’s power has been a wave of positive awareness. It originally means that women should fulfill themselves by developing individual abilities. Now, it generally refers to women who focus on personal growth, keep up with current affairs, and are willing to devote more time and energy to matters they consider meaningful. The author reviews the development and styles of the image of women presenting in European art and their effects on artists of later generations. Carl Gustav Jung and Jacques-Marie-‘Emile Lacan’s psychological theories are used to analyze the origin of artistic creation. Through the exploration of women’s representation in the works of iconic artists of the Art Nouveau, such as Jules Ch’eret, Gustav Klimt, and Alfons Maria Michae, the paper investigates the history of the pursuit of women’s autonomy and its long-lasting effects. The paper further inspects the author’s journey of art creation to discuss the presentation of the discourse of women’s image, and to take a serious look at the awakening deep inside her heart of creating women’s image. The author’s creation of art came from pure interest. However, after receiving complete theoretical training and gaining practical experience in the M.A. program of the Department of Fine Arts at NTNU, the author’s curiosity on her motivation to paint was aroused. This study starts from an overview of art history, followed by a review of the personal journey of art creation, and ends with an examination of the meaning of the age of women. Such exploration yields fruitful and exciting results.
