Abstract
Professional English competitions in Taiwan include the Professional English Vocabulary and Listening Skills Competition, the Science and Popularization of Science Professional English Proficiency Competition, and the Local Government English Elite Cup (New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Taichung City, Yunlin County, and Kaohsiung City Government). Due to a large number of participating schools, teachers, and students, these are large-scale events. In response to increased competition, new professional category systems are being continually launched. It is necessary for national educational institutions, teachers, and students to better understand the professional English competition content to enhance their high recognition through smooth, successful implementation. This could encourage teachers and students across Taiwan to use the professional English digital learning system to enhance their professional competence. Based on the Information System Success Model (2003), the present study explored differences in participation in professional English competitions by participants of various backgrounds. We examined the professional English systems and the interrelationships between system quality, information quality, service quality, usage, user satisfaction, and the individual impact of professional English competitions. A total of 322 students and teachers who participated in the Professional English and Japanese Vocabulary and Listening Skills Competition in March 2023 were recruited as the study sample. This research involved a survey questionnaire with a 77.59 % effective recovery rate. We conducted descriptive statistics and variance analysis using SPSS 24.0. Structural equation modeling, overall fitness, and path analysis were conducted using AMOS 24.0.The findings of this study encompass the follows aspects: Firstly, participants hold the belief that enhancing both “information quality” and “system quality” contributes positively to “system use intention”. Secondly, participants are of the opinion that enhancing “system quality”, “service quality”, and “system use intention” collectively contributes to heightened levels of “user satisfaction”. Thirdly, participants indicate that augmenting “system use intention” is conducive to fostering “individual impact”. Lastly, participants opine that advancing “user satisfaction” would be advantageous in terms of promoting “individual impact”. Based on the outcomes derived from this study, several recommendations can be put forth : Firstly, it is recommended to bolster the digital learning environment at the middle school level, thereby fostering increased student engagement in competitions.; Second, Specialized vocabulary for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) can be included to enhance the learning experience for a wider range of participants. These suggestions offer valuable insights for organizers and future system development researchers alike.
