Abstract

Nowadays, the increasing uncertainty in business environment keeps challenging the ability of companies to survive which lead to a more intensive competition between companies. Having enough talented employees is regarded as one of the most important competitive advantages. In this regard, talent management has become more popular than ever in both business and academic areas. Even though it is highly discussed in literature, there is still no shared definition, scope, and overall goals for people to take as references. The researcher of this study conducted in-depth interviews to seven foreign direct investment companies and eight local companies, and categorizing analysis method to explore the talent management definition, strategies, practices, alignment with business strategy, and roles in talent management of targeted companies. The result showed a general framework and components of talent management in both kinds of companies. The outcome of this study can help the business to clarify the ideas of talent management and take them as references to establish, improve, or upgrade their talent management practices.
