Abstract
Dadaocheng, one of the essential origins of Taipei City, developed into the most active area of culture, art, drama, music, entertainment, etc., during the Japanese occupation period, and once became the birthplace of Taiwan's national movement. People from the early cultural circles gathered here and held cultural lectures to awaken Taiwanese people's awareness of society and politics. Changes in political environment, social structure, the economy, living habits, etc., affect the prosperity and decline of Dadaocheng. The recent population loss, urban changes, and continuous transformation have significantly impacted on Dadaocheng. I have had a deep connection with Dadaocheng since my childhood. Even whenI started my teaching career, I returned to teach at Zhongxing Elementary School in Dadaocheng. The memory of living in Dadaocheng depicts every moment of my growth.Based on my own experience, this thesis explores Dadaocheng's gradual change in history, society, art, architecture, and the lives of ordinary people. This is more emotional and meaningful to me. Visiting the architectural relics that remain today and walking through the seemingly ordinary streets and alleys are my creation theme. This is how I present my origins—through the architectural gable series of Dadaocheng, the series depicting the lives of ordinary people, and the Tamsui River paintings—expressing both memory and anticipation.
