Abstract
Since the inception of the"Little Theater Movement" in the 1980s and the development of indigenous musicals in the 2000s, Taiwan's theatrical performance activities have yet to establish a "theater cluster". In contrast, neighboring countries such as South Korea and China have well-developed theater clusters. Despite Taiwan's theater industry lagging behind South Korea and China, this study identifies the "Dadaocheng International Arts Festival" in Taipei as a potential catalyst for local development into a theater cluster. The research uses South Korea's "Daehangno Theater District" as a reference and China's "Nanluogu Lane" as a comparative case. The core of this research is to explore whether the "Dadaocheng International Arts Festival" can lead to the development of a theater cluster in Taipei. It uses "Daehangno Theater District" in South Korea and "Nanluogu Lane" in Beijing as objects of literature analysis. The case study targets include past organizers of the "Dadaocheng International Arts Festival", the "Dadaocheng Creative DistrictDevelopment Association" and the "Department of Cultural Affairs,Taipei City Government". Through literature analysis and in-depth interviews, the study examines the past and the present "operating teams", "curatorial models", "government policies", "business district structures", and "community management" within the Dadaocheng area. The research focuses on comparing the differences in "government policies", "operational methods", "business district structures", and "community management" between the "Daehangno Theater District" in South Korea, the "Nanluogu Lane" in Beijing, and the "Dadaocheng area" in Taiwan. It considers aspects that Taiwan can learn from. The research aims to determine whether the "Dadaocheng International Arts Festival" can develop into a regular performance activity theater cluster, focusing on "institutional aspects" and "operational aspects". The findings aim to contribute to the theater-related fields and make a contribution to Taiwan's theater industry.
