Abstract
Orchestra is a group of performers combined with musicians with different instruments to perform altogether under the leadership of the conductor. The core value for an orchestra is non-other than professional musical performance. In the past, orchestras rely heavily on live performances and usually combined with a large number of musicians to interpret a masterpiece. However, ever since COVID-19 impacted Taiwan’s performing arts industry in February 2020, Taiwan has encountered twice between 2020 and 2021 when the pandemic was serious enough to force all performing venues to close themselves to the outside world. Each wave of the pandemic has shaped Taiwan’s performing arts industry in various ways. The most significant change among the many changes is probably how most performing groups are now relying on digital online platforms for their performance. National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra is a governmental organization, it shoulders different duties in this challenging time, duties included how to use the government’s resources to support and promote arts education during the time of the pandemic. This research is a case study on National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, to study how the pandemic changes the orchestra’s programs and performances, and how it performs its social responsibilities during this tough moment.
