Abstract
隨著科技突破與世界變遷的背景下,光與材質之應用皆不斷地受到轉變,運用低耗能的光源及降低環境傷害的創新和再生材料,使產品與環境之間得以相互共存。了解光與材料的特性與意象,不只有助於設計者對產品的結構開發與質感的最佳應用,同時也維繫人對於光與材質的經驗和記憶,以設計出貼心的產品。 產品的表現方式不只有技術層面,也包含燈光或環境光為周遭環境所營造的氛圍,及材料所帶來之個性與格調。產品的質感表現主要藉由材料之透光程度與反射性質兩者而定,透過這兩項因素之間的組合與變化,材料便能呈現出豐富的質地和紋理。為了提升產品的附加價值,以刺激消費者的購買慾望和品味需求,增加加工的知識和技巧,能提供設計者許多的靈感與變化手法,並準確地傳達產品之理念與格調。 本研究採用個案分析法分析各種不同材質應用的燈具,了解燈光與材料之間的運用手法及其呈現之效果與質感,以提供創作所需之靈感。本創作透過3D模擬即時檢視套入各種材質之燈具,選擇出適合的燈光與材料之搭配作為實體創作對象,同時於過程中留意材料的比例與位置,避免產生不協調與曖昧不明的視覺性。材料的細膩度及燈光和環境光的變因是3D模擬所難以掌控及呈現的,因此設計產品前可先研究材料真實的質感,使最終成品的表現效果能夠接近於設計之期望。 本創作最終設計三款分別由混凝土、石膏與紙漿所製之燈具,三者不僅都具備灌漿成形之特點,也發現其能藉由外來物質或不同溶液混合出各種不可預期之表面質感,相對之下會比原先概念與3D模擬還來得生動許多,因此在創作過程中透過許多實驗和測試,可以提升光與材質表現的多樣性及組合的變化性。
The applications of light and materials are constantly changing within the context of technological breakthrough and world evolution. The use of energy-efficient light sources and innovative and renewable materials that help reduce harms to environment allows coexistence between products and the environment. The understanding of the features and images of light and materials not only helps designers in terms of the development of product structures and the best applications of texture, but also relates people to the experience and memory of light and materials for the design of intimate products. Product presentation consists of not only the technical aspect, but also the atmosphere created by the illumination from lights and environment for the surrounding, and the characters and style brought in by materials used. The presentation of product texture depends mainly on the transparency and reflectivity of materials. By exploiting the combination and change of these two factors, materials will be able to present a rich range of textures and grains. To improve the added value of a product in order to excite the general consumers’ desire to buy and need for taste, the increase of processing knowledge and craftsmanship will allow designers for inspiration and variations, as well as accurate conveyance of product philosophy and style. Lighting fixtures made of various materials were investigated in the case studies conducted for this study in order to understand how the light and materials are used and presented and provide a direction and reference for creation. A 3D simulation of the created work allowed real-time examination on lighting fixtures various materials for the selection of best-fit combination of light and materials for real-life creation. Attention was paid to the proportion and location of materials during the process to avoid awkward and ambiguous visualization. The fineness of materials and the variables of manmade and environmental lights were the parts that were difficult to control and represent in a 3D setting. Therefore, it is necessary to study the real texture of a material and in turn allow the final presentation of work to meet the expectation of the original design before designing a product. Three lighting fixture mock-ups were made for this created work in concrete, plaster and paper pulp, as all these three materials can be cast in-situ. It is found that it was able to present a multitude of unexpected surface textures by mixing foreign materials or different solutions. In comparison, the mock-ups were more visually vivid than the original concept and 3D simulation. A series of experiments and tests were conducted in the creation process to allow the improvement of diversity in light and material presentation and variation of combinations.
