Abstract
Abstract A number of studies have specified that middle classes students’ academic performances fell short of mass expectation. It seems necessary to explore the factors concerning middle classes students’ academic achievements. This study aims to discuss how the family factors affect academic achievements of senior high students from middle classes. The data analyzed is from Taiwan Educational Panel Survey(TEPS) . Tested by quantitative methods, the results are as follows: 1. Father’s level of Education has a significant effect on senior high student’s academic achievements. 2. SES factors affect senior high students’ academic achievements, but only at a modest rate. 3. SES factors have effect on parenting style and the sum of supplementary lessons which parents provide for their children. 4. Strict parenting style leaves students with lower academic achievement. 5. Those students whose parents provide more supplementary lessons make better academic achievement.
