Abstract
This study aimed to examine the theses related to recorder teaching in Taiwan. Using content analysis, the researcher focused on 70 master's theses published from January 1, 1992, to the end of July 2023 (the 80th to 111th academic years). The research employed a self-developed "Content Analysis Category Table for Recorder Teaching Theses in Taiwan" as the main tool, dividing the analysis into three parts: basic information of the theses, research design, and the recorder teaching designs within the theses. The study delved into eight categories: research methods, research subjects, sampling methods, research tools, teaching strategies, teaching materials, assessment of recorder teaching effectiveness, and evaluation of recorder performance.Key conclusions from the study are as follows:1.There are a total of 70 theses on recorder teaching in Taiwan, with a significant increase in 2007 and the highest publication number in 2009. The majority were published by the National Taipei University of Education, and 44 out of 70 theses were from music departments leading in publications.2.The most common research method in these theses is quasi-experimental research, followed by action research and survey research.3.The primary subjects of these studies are elementary school students, followed by junior high students and elementary school teachers.4.The sampling method predominantly used is non-random sampling, with convenience sampling being the most common, followed by purposive sampling.5.Assessment criteria are the most commonly used research tools, followed by questionnaires and observation records.6.The most common teaching strategy is the integration of popular music, followed by cooperative learning methods and the use of multimedia in teaching.7.Self-developed materials are the most commonly used teaching materials, followed by the Kang Hsuan and Han Lin textbook editions.8.In terms of learning effectiveness assessment, the main focus is on the skill aspect of recorder performance, followed by affective aspects like interest in learning the recorder and attitudes towards it.9.The evaluation of recorder performance primarily focuses on breath control, finger technique, and rhythm, followed by tonguing and posture. Finally, based on the results of this study, suggestions for future researchers in recorder teaching are provided for reference.
