Abstract

This study aims to explore the effects of a 12-week"Energy Rhythmic Health Exercise" program on body composition and sleep quality among older adults in the Taoyuan area. It also examines whether demographic factors such as gender, age, living situation, and education level influence these outcomes. A total of 55 participants (17 men and 38 women, with an average age of 73.27 years) completed the 12-week program, practicing the exercise at home twice a week for 30 minutes each session. Assessment tools included a body composition analyzer and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0, and the results indicated the following:1. After participating in the 12-week program, participants showed an average decrease in"biological age," along with increases in "upper limb muscle mass," "lower limb muscle mass," and "whole-body phase angle." Notably, both "biological age" and "right leg muscle mass" demonstrated significant improvements. 2. Regarding sleep quality, participants experienced decreases in scores for "subjective sleep quality," "sleep latency," "total sleep duration," "sleep efficiency," "use of sleeping medication," "daytime dysfunction," and the "overall PSQI score." Among these, improvements in"sleep efficiency" and the "overall PSQI score" reached statistical significance, indicating an overall enhancement in sleep quality. 3. Age differences had a significant impact on changes in "biological age" and "limb muscle mass." Specifically, participants aged 85 and above exhibited greater improvements in limb muscle mass compared to those aged 75–84, suggesting that the 12-week program was particularly effective in enhancing limb muscle mass among the oldest participants. Conversely, gender, living situation, and education level did not significantly affect changes in body composition.
