林獻堂《環球遊記》及其現代性論述

Abstract

本論文的內容，主要在呈現林獻堂自1927年5月15至1928年5月25日止的環球之旅以及當時所留下《環球遊記》的樣貌。這部記載林獻堂首次壯遊世界的見聞紀錄，不僅是了解作者思想與情感的材料外，也是臺灣人走向世界、學習先進、找尋民族出路、追求現代化的精神實錄，實有不可取代的文化價值與歷史意義，是故，筆者希望藉由議題的分析，使這部劃時代的紀遊能夠有更完整的輪廓出現。在內容的論述上，首章以林獻堂的環球旅遊動機、歷程、閱讀記憶來完整此趟旅遊的輪廓、接下來則分別以文明世界風景、異國文化風情，為論述主軸來進行研究。 在討論林獻堂的旅遊歷程時，首先考察林獻堂旅遊以及寫作的動機分別為何，並將林獻堂留下的日記與遊記相互參照，對旅程本身作一個更仔細完整的認識，此外，康梁等人對林獻堂旅遊及遊記的影響，潛藏的閱讀記憶帶領著林獻堂的旅遊走往什麼方向，也是本章的研究重點之一。接下來，關於遊記中林獻堂討論異國的文明樣貌，則以城市、博物館、歷史名勝、公園四個地方做為要項進行分析，從中反映林獻堂理想中的「文明國家」該是何種樣貌。而在林獻堂遊記中對各國的精神文化層面的論述上，筆者則以風俗慶典、殖民種族、以及女性議題為主題，去剖析林獻堂書寫的內容背後，試圖想傳達給臺灣人民的意義。期望藉由本論文的撰寫，能為林獻堂的環球之旅，以及《環球遊記》作一個更為清楚完整的呈現。

This study aimed to depict the historical background of Lin Hsien-tang’s globetrotting since May 15, 1927 to May 25, 1928. In addition, this study also attempted to present the scenario of Lin Hsien-tang’s “Universal Travel”, which not only represented the pioneering work of traveling round the world but also advocated the spirit of Taiwanese’ globalization and the pursuit of modernization. As drawing the outline of this tour, the motivation and process of Lin Hsien-tang’s globetrotting were introduced in the first chapter. Then, sceneries of those civilized countries and their various cultures were respectively illustrated and investigated in different sections of this study. To compare with Lin’s manuscript diary, the framework of this study was established with examining the motivation of Lin writing the Universal Travel and his globetrotting; additionally, the influences of Kang You-wei’s and Liang Qi-chao’s writing on Lin’s tour were also evaluated. In regards to the civilization of different countries, views of cities, museums, ancient monuments, and natural scenery parks were all included, analyzed, and then reflected Lin’s “ideal civilized country.” On the other hand, the descriptions of various cultures were elaborated in different perspectives such as customs, traditions, colonized races, and issues of feminism. This study intended to thoroughly demonstrate Lin’s one-year worldwide tour and his “Universal Travel”; moreover, this study sought for the information which Lin endeavored to convey to Taiwanese people.
