The Study of Physical Activity and Regular Exercise Habit of Junior High Students of Different Classroom Floors June, 2007 Chih-hsiung Huang Advusor: Jiunn-chern Jwo Abstract The geographical location of the classroom may restrict the physical activity level and exercise habit of students. However, there was few research had conducted in this area. The purpose of the study was to compare the differences of physical activity and regular exercise habit among different floor of classroom of junior high school students. There were 428 junior high school students (8th grade) in Nan-Kan High School in Tou-Yan County of Taiwan were recruited as the subjects. Each subject was asked to fill out the survey of physical activity, and 80 subjects of first to fourth floor (20 subjects each floor) were measured the physical activity level by pedometers. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistic analysis, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe analysis, and Chi-square test. The findings of the study are as follows: 1. There was a significant difference (p<.05) in physical activity of the students among different floors (from first to fourth floor). The physical activity of the students decreased gradually when the location of the classrooms was getting higher. 2. There was no significant difference in regular exercise habit of the both male and female students on different floors (p>.05). 3. There was a significant distinction in regular exercise habit of the male and female students on different floors (p<.05). Male students exercise morethan female ones in frequency. The location of the classroom floor restricts the physical activity level of junior high school students. The higher the classroom level, the lower the physical activity level of students. Key words: different floors, physical activity, regular exercise habit
