Abstract
Since the extensive promotion of marine education by the Taiwanese government in 2011, museums have become one of the important informal school education arenas. Among them, the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology has promoted marine education through various teaching approaches. Driven by its arena characteristics and environmental issues, the Museum thereupon seeks to link up the relations between humans and the environment, and that between museums and art through environmental art curation. This paper aims to investigate the views of visitors towards environmental art and their influence on marine awareness. The method of content analysis is used to analyze the photographs and their captions in the social media Instagram. The study shows that the contents of visitors’ posts center on specific works, from which it is difficult for them to construct their marine awareness; also, the orientations of their personal gazes are not entirely the same. Therefore, it is recommended that efforts be strengthened in offering marine education courses and teacher training; in curation, different marine education themes be extensively used, with publicity content close to people’s life added so as to attain the goal of promoting marine education.
