Abstract
The present study aims at investigating the experience of the intervention by the school counseling team in the dating violence in junior high school, with a view to promoting the awareness of preventing dating violence and to transcending limitations of the related studies and the current domestic counseling system in high schools. Six counselors from the school counseling team are recruited for interviews, the summarizing results of which are shown as follows. (a) Awareness of the dating violence experiences: The subjects with the infliction of dating violence are categorized into five types, including requests from parents, notifications from classmates, referrals from court, referrals from teachers, and referrals from school counselors. Most of which are surprisingly not concerned with dating violence in the first place. (b) The intervention in the dating violence: Subjects are officially referred to School Counseling Systems, the mechanisms of which for intervention includes the assessment of intervention needed the assistance service provided, and the case wrapped up after the intervention. Besides, it is found that subject’s identity as juvenile takes to a whole unique level the intervention by school counseling team. (c) Cooperation of interdisciplinary teamwork: To provide more suitable service for students, school counseling teams have to cooperate with other teams in school or from other schools. Nevertheless, the service they actually provided during the cooperation was distinct due to their specialties. According to this finding, the present study proposed some suggestions for future reference in drawing up policies.
