十九世紀英美小說中譯品質研究(附評註書目)(II-II)

Abstract

本評註書目的研究對象，是台灣地區1945－1987之間出版的十九世紀英美小說全譯本共100種，包括英美作者27位，作品63部，平均每部作品被翻譯1.6次，其中43部作品只有一個譯本，其他20部則有兩種以上譯本，最多的作品有六種譯本。其中英國作家19位，譯出作品42部，譯本66種，以Thomas Hardy的Tess of the D’Urbervilles共6種中譯本居首；66種譯本中有半數是大陸譯本，初版地在大陸的33種，台灣31種，香港2種；美國作家8位，譯出作品21部，譯本34種，其中以Mark Twain的The Adventures of Tom Sawyer共6種中譯本居首；而34種譯作中，初版地在大陸的13種，台灣15種，香港6種。以翻譯品質而論，美國文學的佳譯比例較高，英國文學只有三分之一可稱為佳譯，美國文學的佳譯則超過一半。

This annotated bibliography consists of 100 translations, circulating in Taiwan from 1945-1987, of 63 titles by 27 major 19th century British and American novelists. On average, every work was translated 1.6 times. Of the 63 novels, 43 had only one rendition, and the rest were transalted twice at least, and six times at most. Half of the 66 translations of British authors were initially published in Mainland China, 31 in Taiwan, and 2 in Hong Kong, while 13 of the 34 transaltions of American authoers were first puplished in Mainland China, 15 in Taiwan, and 6 in Hong Kong. Of the British novels, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, which had been translated 6 times, was the most translated. In terms of American novels, Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer intrigued the most translators, totaling 6. In terms of quality, the percentage of good translations of American novels was higher than their British counterparts.
