Abstract

Diaries, as the most personal and confidential documents reflecting their human nature, are centered on self-concept ‘I-novels’. Through their works, diaries and memoirs can construct their own world, especially the most private personal diaries, which can show the complete individual experience and daily life. The historical materials in the ‘Diary of a Japanese Soldier in Tainan in 1904.’are analyzed and compared with the social situation and historical background of the Japanese colonial period in 1904. It is also possible to see how the authoruses body action and body performance to gain body experience with sense of the body, and to seestreet view and social culture of Tainan from the diary at the same time. This thesis wanted to be explored from the aspects of content writing, social background, space movement, disease and medical treatment, daily life and entertainment.
