Abstract
遠東音樂社是臺灣的第一間音樂經紀公司。在戒嚴的時代背景之下，為避免給當局圖利的印象，因此以「音樂社」作為名稱，如此可顯示所從事之工作與音樂活動有關，又可避免當局不必要的過度聯想。遠東音樂社成立之後積極協助文化交流派遣來臺的節目演出，讓早年的臺灣愛樂者有機會接觸到來自海外的表演者，見識國際水準的音樂或藝文演出。
創業之艱辛，遠東音樂社也曾經面臨經營的困境，但憑藉著對於臺灣整體音樂環境的使命感而堅持下來。營業期間（1956-1983）介紹許多來自不同國家的文化大使，大多數是音樂家，也有舞蹈家。這些節目也都成為今日許多愛樂者心中的美好回憶，也扮演著臺灣藝文環境的推手。
在臺灣早期艱辛的音樂環境中，遠東音樂社扮演了外籍演出者與臺灣演出場地之間稱職的中介角色，儘管與國際相較不夠頂尖，但已經是當時臺灣環境所能做到的最好。遠東音樂社所代表的意義不僅是一家音樂經紀公司，也是臺灣音樂經紀的開路先鋒。
The Far East Music Company is said to be the first music management company in Taiwan. In order to avoid presenting the authorities a harmful image, Far East Company substituted “music management company” for “music company”. Therefore it made the authorities considered that Far East is a company which related with music business instead of a commercial company. During 1956-1983, Far East Music Company introduced many sorts of foreign performers to Taiwanese audiences. It was a tough work to establish the bridge for foreign performers and Taiwanese audiences in early times. However, Far East still insisted their objectives for a better environment of music in the near future. Briefly, Far East is not only a music management company, but as well as the spearhead of Taiwan music management business.
