Abstract

Taiwan is an ecologically diverse country and has the maximum number of butterfly speciesper unit area in the world. Taiwan has more than 400 butterfly species that have been identified, 60 of which are specific to the island. Because of its specific topography and diverse mountains, Taiwan has varied climates. This has provided habitats that are suitable for many butterfly species. Butterflies are representative of many natural resources in Taiwan andshould be respected and protected. Humans benefit from rich resources and comfortable living conditions, but this also pollutes the environment. According to data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, overhunting, the introduction of alien species that pose a threat to native species, and interference with and destruction of original habitats are the leading causes of the extinction of species. Dangers from predators and habitat loss brought on by excessive development, which results in the extinction of host and nectar plants, are the main threats to butterfly survival. In order to maintain the sustainable development of natural resources and ecological environments, this study uses augmented reality combined with a virtual experience to bring an understanding of butterfly species endemic to Taiwan's butterflies and establish natural ecological conservation behavior. In this study, we compiled relevant papers on Taiwan's endemic butterfly species and materials that have been reviewed by experts; used image processing software to extract appearance, texture, and color characteristics from digital samples of five families of Taiwan's endemic butterfly species; further analyzed the form principle of the beauty of butterfly texture features; and used vision to construct basic points, lines, and planes for their conversion into a motion graphics research creation. Additionally, environmentally friendly shopping bags were made using designs from the distinguishing characteristics of Taiwan's endemic butterfly species. These bags were used as carriers for Artivive's augmented reality tool to present the dynamic features of butterflies. Dynamic research creation combined with environmental protection actions, advocating plastic reduction actions from the environment, and that using eco-friendly shopping bags is a proclamation and presentation of one's attitude toward life. A total of 10 types of environmentally friendly shopping bags have been researched and created, which are thebutterfly texture characteristics and formation principles of Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nvmphalidae, Lycaenidae and Hesperiidae. The use of augmented reality in conjunction with virtual and experience the fun brought by technology and enhance the understanding of Taiwan's endemic butterfly species. Environmental protection and ecological conservation can be accomplished with eco-friendly shopping bags, which are similar to mobile posters.
