Abstract
This article is my study outcome at the Sinology Institute of Leiden University in Netherlands during the 2003 academic year. The contents also reflect my notes in the courses and a good memory. The archives from “Batavia (Djakarta) Court of Law” had maintained thousands of files. The archives were records about official business in the community of overseas Chinese in Indonesia during the sixteenth century. Professor Leonard Blusse had obtained these documents as well as an official signboard and eight pieces of wooden tablets. The documents are kept in the library of Sinology Institute and the wooden tablets are hung on the hall. I make reference to an introductory book co-authored by Professor Blusse (Leiden University) and Professor Wu Feng-chen (Xiamen University) as well as some articles contributed by Luu Tze-ming and Hsü Yün-chiao. The collation of these documents shall be helpful to understand the overseas Chinese community in Batavia.
