Abstract
This study was to 1) identify the characteristics of a volleyball teaching activities based on problem-based learning (PBL) model; and 2) to explore the problems encountered and strategies applied to the case in teaching through action research. The 28 participants from a 7th grade class of a junior high school. They went through ten-week teaching activities of volleyball underhand pass based on PBL modes and took 'The New Problem Solving Test' before and after the teaching. Finally, as for the analysis of qualitative data, concluded from collected PBL worksheets, learning sheets, teaching journals, video observation and interview data. The conclusions were as follows: 1) teachers should adjust and amend teaching strategies to improve students' involvement, interests, motion skills and problem-solving ability; 2) students' 'avoiding problem' score in 'The New Problem Solving Test' was significantly different; 3) appropriate strategies were provided to problems encountered environment-wise, student-wise as well as teacher-wise.
