Abstract
Most traditional patrol systems record patrol data on a paper sheet or using a RFID reader. The way of record on paper has many shortcomings such as the recorded paper sheet s are easy to be stolen, also hard to avoid counterfeit data and need to waste much time to trace data. Although using a RFID reader can speedup patrol efficiency, however, most RFID readers doesn’t have enough functions to support the patrol task. For example, a patrol officer can’t upload patrol data in real time, since the RFID readers do not support any communication capability. The study is aimed to develop a patrol system on an Android smart phone with NFC technology. Our system includes an outdoor module and an indoor module. In the outdoor module, we use GPS with Google map to support the patrol routes and using GPS positioning to help the patrol officer to validate his location. In the indoor module, since GPS positioning can’t be used inside a building, we use NFC tag co-worked with the smartphone’s NFC technology to locate the patrol officer’s location using designed indoor map and location information inside an NFC tag. In additions, we develop the back-end manager to receive the smartphone’s recorded patrol data in real time. The patrol manager can handle these patrol data and react different situations for the patrol tasks.
